SCRANTON ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT (SCAAP)
MISSION

Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (SCAAP) manufactures large-caliber metal projectiles for the Joint Warfighter.

HISTORY

The installation was originally constructed as a steam locomotive erecting and repair facility in 1908. Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (SCAAP) was established in 1953 and operated by the U.S. Hoffman Machinery Corporation until 1963, when Chamberlain Manufacturing Corporation became the operating contractor.

General Dynamics-Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) assumed operation of the facility from Chamberlain in 2006 and is the current operating contractor. Built in 1908, the main buildings remain largely unaltered. Thus, the installation is included in a national historic district, the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Yard – Dickson Manufacturing Company Site, and is listed on the National Registry of Historical Places.
