The U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command (JMC), headquartered at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, was established in 2002 following decades of organizational
reform in ammunition management. Its roots trace back to the Ordnance Department's efforts during World War II to manage munitions and ensure readiness,
with the broader origins of the U.S. ammunition industrial base stretching back to 1775, when the Army itself was established. JMC carries forward this
rich legacy, serving as the Department of Defense’s field operating agency for conventional ammunition and overseeing the production, distribution,
storage, and demil of munitions across all military services. In 2006, JMC became a separate Army Materiel Command Major Subordinate Command, symbolizing
its critical role with its own insignia, flag, and motto tied to the Ordnance Corps.
JMC ensures mission success by providing ammunition with precision and reliability. From supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom
with a 100% on-time delivery rate to meeting urgent requirements during the Afghanistan troop withdrawal and aiding EUCOM in support of Ukraine, JMC adapts
to emerging needs. Managing a $69 billion ammunition stockpile, JMC focuses on readiness, modernization, and global logistics integration, guaranteeing
the highest quality munitions for U.S. military forces and allied nations.
The Ammunition Hall of Fame was established in October 2011 to memorialize and honor former members of the ammunition community who have made
significant and lasting contributions to the U.S. Army ammunition mission. Individuals will be chosen solely on their significant contributions
to the U.S. Army ammunition mission and each selectee will be able to stand up to close scrutiny. Attainment of high rank or position is not
necessarily indicative of a significant contribution to the mission. Likewise, rank, sex, ethnicity and/or religion are not discriminators.
JMC RESEARCH LIBRARY CONTAINS COLLECTIONS from predecessors' commands, closed and active military installations,
